Calvary Baptist Church
We are situated on a main road in a well-established shopping area with mixed housing, to the west of Cardiff city centre in an area called Canton. It is approximately one mile from the city centre - a 15 minute walk. The church is made up of about 50 members and an additional 150+ people who are reached through our activities, most of whom live within a mile radius of the church building. We are a mainly white, English-speaking group, worshipping in an ethnically mixed area but we are becoming a more diverse congregation.
Our Vision
‘A light revealing God’s love in the community’
- offering worthy and accessible worship
- seeking to love one another faithfully
- being inclusive and valuing everyone
- using our gifts fully to serve God
- being passionate about sharing God's love in the community
The Church we would like to see
In October 2024 the church met to consider a number of key questions, including the question: With God’s blessing what will Calvary look like in five years’ time? As a result of this and other gatherings to consider the future we set out what we would like to see:
1. We will be a people who love God, love each other and love the community we are called to serve.
2. We will be relating more closely to those who live and work in the immediate area of the church building (within walking distance of the church). We will be engaging with and be a greater part of this local community.
3. We will be a church that is growing in faith and prayer with a growing heart for those without faith, particularly those in our local community.
4. We will be a church that is continuing to grow in number, with a good mix of ages, more young families, and more people from the local community. We will see people of all ages using and developing their gifts and fully participating in the life of the church and its mission.
5. We will be intentionally missional in purpose through all we are and do throughout the week. We will see people coming to faith, being baptised, growing in faith, being discipled, and being sent out.
6. We will continue to be rooted in God’s Word and will be helped in this by receiving inspirational Bible-based preaching and teaching – from a minister and others who are part of our church.
7. We will be working well with other like-minded churches in our local community to grow the Kingdom of God.
